Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the UAB in 1975, specializing in Ophthalmology in 1970 and Doctor Cum Laude in 1993 is considered one of the foremost experts eye surgeons in Spain, over two decades, has been a pioneer in the application of more advanced techniques, such as the implantation of monofocal , toric and multifocal intraocular lenses for cataract surgery, Orbscan system diagnosis, or personalized refractive treatments, in which he has participated in various research projects. He is a member of the National Panel on ICL lenses since its founding. As for laser refractive surgery,he was the first ophthalmologist in Spain to start counting the practice in 1988 and has extensive experience with Excimer laser techniques in PRK, LASIK and EpiLASIK. From 2009 to nowadays he has participated in a research protocol PresbyLasik SUPRACOR algorithm for laser treatment of presbyopia.

Focuses on the Institute Castanera in the diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of childhood eye disease and the treatment of strabismus in both child and adult. Participates of clinical trial research on the effectiveness of different drugs for the treatment of infantile glaucoma, and also the “RTOC” (Ophthalmopaediatrics Telemedicine Network of Catalonia), to improve the diagnosis and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity)

Her activity in the institute involves the diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment for retinal diseases. Participates in clinical trials investigating the effectiveness of different drugs for the prevention and treatment of macular degeneration associated with age.
